The transatlantic venture capital firm which proactively helps UK businesses scale, investing between £1m and £5m in companies across all sectors
Fund name: Beringea
Investor category: Venture capital
Based in: London and Detroit
With a track record spanning over 25 years and an investment portfolio of 38 companies, Beringea is a VC firm which invests in dynamic UK businesses. It opts to take a proactive role in its investees’ development, working closely with entrepreneurs and typically taking a seat on company boards.
Beringea invests between £1m and £5m in businesses which are strictly UK-based, have a strong management team or founder at the helm, and show potential to scale rapidly – through either product development or expanding internationally.
While the firm invests in companies across all sectors, it says that it is attracted to industries which are undergoing change, whether this is driven by new technologies, evolving industry dynamics or both.
Beringea avoids early stage investments and buyouts, focusing primarily on development capital deals; investee companies must have already generated at least £1m in revenue.
Size of fund:
In 2014 Beringea invested £2m in digital commodity auction and trading platform Perfect Channel. After the start-up grew its revenues by 100% and increased its staff count by 25%, Beringea participated in a follow-on £2m investment round in the business in February 2017.

Eyal Malinger, investment director at Beringea, explained: “With half of the commodities sector significantly affected by limitations to traditional, expensive, slow and intermediated trading models, this is clearly an industry ripe for innovation.”
