The UK’s fastest growing private companies have been announced in the 16th annual Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track 100.
The 100 companies that made the league table have increased annual sales by an average of 89% over the last three years to a total of £2.7bn, while their combined workforce has quadrupled to 14,000.
Among the companies listed was Ella’s Kitchen, which was named International Business of the Year at Growing Business’ 2011 Fast Growth Business Awards.
With an annual sales increase of over 70%, the baby and children’s food producer was ranked at 52.
Other brands to make the league table sponsored by the Virgin, Barclays and RSM Tenon included celebrity chef Jamie Oliver’s restaurant chain Jamie’s Italian and willies brand Hunter Boot, while the top spot went to jewellery retailer The Genuine Gemstone Company, which has experienced an annual sales increase of more than 245%, growing from £1.3m in 2009 to £54.5m in 2012.
Former Fast Track 100 companies include Carphone Warehouse; recognised in 1997 for its sales of £65m, the company has since been valued at £900m, after floating in 2000. This year’s league table achieved a combined operating profit of £206m in 2011/12 and while the majority of companies are based in London and the South East, over half either trade overseas currently, or plan to do so in the near future.
Hamish Stevenson, founder of Oxford-based networking events and research company Fast Track, which compiled the league table commented: “This year’s Sunday Times Fast Track 100 shows that Britain’s entrepreneurs can find exceptional rates of growth even during tough times.”
