I know registering with DMOZ takes a long time as its human reviewed, but in practice of the people that have been included, how long did it actually take out of interest ?
It can take anytime between a week and a year depending on whether the site has an active editor or none at all. Don’t worry too much though as a DMOZ entry doesn’t carry the same weight as it did a few years ago

It is difficult to get listed on DMOZ. It’s been about a year for me and no response yet. It is helpful to be listed there but as mentioned before I think the search engines are looking more at a website’s content and not its listings.

I think it was about 5 months after sumbmission on Dmoz that I actually saw the listing. Your listing on DMOZ used to help a lot and now not so much. Especially as Dmoz maybe being sold to another directory company it is likely that google will not use Dmoz as a mirror for its own directory.

submit once and then forget about it – if it works then great but if it doesn’t then it probably won’t ever

Agreed submit and forget, check once a month. Yahoo still populate their directory using DMOZ though, not sure how google view it now, the hting is that a lot of the ready made directory scripts out there have DMOZ parsing and it tends to get duplicated a lot, not sure what long term affect that has, but having done it myself I can tell you that if you do that your directory will get blcklisted by google.
I’ve found 2-3 months to be the average. Any longer and it will probably never be be listed.
One option is to apply to become an editor for your chosen category. Of course, you must be ethical about it and not abuse the system by listing only your own sites. And you must devote a little time each week to improve the category listings as a whole, but this shouldn’t be too difficult as it should be withi your field of expertise. Read the editor guidelines first.
As has been previously mentioned, Google doesn’t rate DMOZ as highly as it once did but it sill adds some weight to your website.

Old thread but thought I would put my reply in
2 years and 4 months now since I submitted and still no joy. They say not to resubmit but I did around 6 months ago as it seemed that nothing was happening.
In that time I have seen a few small sites in my industry added but not mine. Seems to be either pot luck or you need to bribe the editors somehow. Who knows but I have all but given up.
I don’t agree with "submit once and then forget about it."
I applied once and was rejected, so I improved my site, applied again 6 months later and was immediately accepted.
wow. It took some of you guys a year??? I must have been lucky to have my site reviewed and included in a week!
Great SEO packages. Low prices.
It is very amazing :D It is the first forum where I found majority of the user’s website approved in DMOZ. For a webmaster it is a herculean task to get in to DMOZ listing and I failed in every attempt. Even PR 4site with traffic above 20000 daily. I feel you guys are lucky :@:@:@:@

I know people that have been waiting for over three or two years for their submissions to be accepted. You would have better luck becoming a moderator on their forums and then submitting your own details, although doing it this way is frowned upon.
You will have better luck paying yahoo for their site directory.
