How to get funding for a new business start up?
Hi, I am in the process of setting up my new business. Its in the recycling industry – refilling ink cartridges for B2C & B2B. We will offer a service which aims to reduce the amount of empty ink cartridges filling up our landfills in the UK by encouraging recycling of them. Its an emerging market in the UK and is growing rapidly. We need funding to get off the ground, this will be used to buy machinery, set up the retail website, secure premises and market our service. I’ve checked out grant eligibility but can not secure it. I’m now looking into loans and investment. Can anyone offer any advice on the best way to get funding for a new start up? I fall into the young entrepreneur group of 16-30 year old’s. What methods have worked for you?
You can have a look at business link for some good information on raising finance.
There is a good section on grants and government support.

Is there any legal issues with using your residential address as your registered office? What type of legal problems are associated with it such as company plaque, insurance etc?
I only intend on using it for companies house legal requirements not for trading.
Thanks for the tip on the banks, I’m sorting a few things out with the registration ans hope to get on to that.
The best place is your bank trust me. They have a fair idea about your credit history and you can apply for a loan.
http://www.businesslink.gov.uk but I think you need to have a solid business plan to get grants.
If you need a website then I may be able to arrange one for you for a monthly payment rather than using up your money all together you can make interest fee monthly payment for over 6 months.

You may also want to consider moving where your premises or work offices are based. I lived 200 yards away from a grant goldmine – so set up an office a short distance from home and suddenly was eligble for plenty of grants….certatinly worth talking to business link about
Best of luck!
Hi Num, hi everyone,
I came too late to help you Num and I hope you managed to start your company!
Here is an advice for other startups entrepreneurs: do a good and precise market research.
What I mean by precise market research is a quantitative market research (survey), questionning your potential customers on your precise project.
It would make the difference with only having secondary research and can play a vital role in obtaining financial support for your company.
