Start-ups offered chance to win free marketing for a year

Advice and start-up loans also available at Marketing 4 StartUp Britain

Entrepreneurs within the first two years of their start-up journey will have the opportunity to win year-long access to a leading marketing agency, when Marketing 4 StartUp Britain kicks off in a fortnight.

The week of free events – which will be opened by the prime minister’s enterprise adviser Lord Young on 16 July – seeks to demonstrate how start-ups can use marketing to grow their business.

At the main event, five shortlisted entrepreneurs will be given 10 minutes to pitch their start-up ideas to a panel of successful business figures and compete for the free services of a marketing agency for one year.

Last year, a contract with marketing agency iris was awarded to Safetray, while runner up Rocktails (the frozen cocktail maker which was chosen as a top 20 start-up of 2011) was offered the opportunity to work with Pulse.

Rocktails co-founder Naomi Kibble said the partnership had added an “immense amount of value” to her business, adding: “Having a leading marketing agency working as an integral part of our team has allowed us to compete with some of the largest alcohol companies in the world.

“Pulse Group has challenged our thinking…[and] made us aware of, not only consumers’ experience drinking our product, but everything before and after as well.”

A number of prominent speakers will offer insights into successful marketing at the event, including Justine Roberts, founder of Mumsnet; Facebook’s Felicity McCarthy; and Emma Jones MBE, co-founder of StartUp Britain.

Entrepreneurial attendees aged 18-24 will also have the opportunity to apply for some of the first StartUp Loans – recently unveiled by the government, to help young people start their own businesses.

Although the launch event is now fully booked, it will be followed by a series of workshops and online webchats, led by marketing agencies around the country, which will run until 20 July.
