Startups 100 company secures nationwide listing with Sainsbury’s

Rocktails frozen cocktail pouches to be sold in 100 stores

A start-up founded by two young entrepreneurs has secured a nationwide deal with Sainsbury’s. Rocktails – which we selected as one of the top 20 start-ups of 2011 and ranked #66 in this year’s Startups 100 – has defied critics to secure listings for its frozen cocktail pouches in 100 Sainsbury’s stores, following a regional trial in Wales. Co-founded by 24-year-old serial entrepreneurs Naomi Kibble and Helen McAvoy, Kibble was a finalist in the Female Entrepreneur of the Year category at our 2011 Startups Awards. The company has witnessed meteoric growth since launching in July 2011 – achieving its first listing with Sainsbury’s just nine months in: despite being told by industry experts that it would take two years to get from concept to store. Earlier this year, we chose Rocktails to help debut our Cool Companies section – in recognition of their efforts to shake up the alcohol industry, by providing transparent listings of their ingredients on the back of every product. Kibble said: “We are delighted to be expanding the listing with Sainsbury’s. “It proves that the small players can compete in a competitive sector if the offering is right.”
