miDrive launches pay-as-you-go hourly driving insurance for learners
Startups 100 2017 business now enables learner drivers to sign-up with some basic details, select the time period, and receive car insurance from £12.70
Learner driver app miDrive, featured among the top 20 businesses in the Startups 100 2017, has launched a pay-as-you-go hourly driving insurance designed specifically for young learner drivers.
Users simply sign-up with their personal information, enter their car registration and details, add a photo of their driving licence and car, and select the time they would like to be insured for. Prices start from £12.70 per hour, with learners purchasing one month of cover paying around 20p per hour.
By UK law, all learners driving outside of lessons in their own car need to be insured, but previously had to pay hundreds to insure themselves on specific cars for extended periods of time.
Launched in 2014 and led by CEO Asher Ismail, miDrive allows learners to manage their driving lessons through their smartphones, able to digitally book and pay for their lessons and monitor their progress with detailed post-lesson reports. The app is now available in more than 100 UK towns and cities and claims to have helped over 300,000 people learn to drive.
The company secured £2m in Series A funding in February 2017, which it used to roll out across the UK.
Ismail commented: “Learning to drive is part of a young person’s journey to independence and should be an enjoyable experience, yet a third of learners say they are very anxious about taking their driving test.
“We want to remove the worry and ensure young people drive with confidence. We have launched Anytime by miDrive, hourly learner driver insurance, to empower young people to get behind the wheel of a car as often as possible for as little as possible.”
