Service Business of the Year added to Startups Awards 2012

Category returns by popular demand

Start-up service businesses across the country are invited to apply for the 2012 Startups Awards today, after the Service Business of the Year category was reintroduced by popular demand.

Our prestigious awards, which will take place in December, have seen a flurry of entries from impressive service-based businesses in other categories, prompting the judges to reintroduce the category for this year’s competition.

David Lester, founder of Startups.co.uk and the Startups Awards, said: “There are so many great new service-based businesses achieving enviable success and there will undoubtedly be many more to follow.

“Britain has long taken pride in its reputation as a nation of shopkeepers. But we also have so much to celebrate in what has become a fabulous service-based economy.”

He added: “Gardeners, cleaners, web designers, homeopaths, personal trainers, architects and many many more, make up a patchwork quilt of independent small businesses that enrich all our lives.

“Bonded by the provision of something a little less tangible, but often vital, the Service Business of the Year category is for them. We look forward to helping them all gain the recognition they thoroughly deserve.”

Service Business of the Year will join 13 other categories in making up the 2012 Awards, which are sponsored by NatWest. They include Online Business of the Year, Franchisee of the Year and Home-based Business of the Year.

Entries will be accepted until 14 September, with all UK start-ups which began trading within the last three years eligible to apply.
