TripAdvisor-style funeral directory gets £1m angel investment
Exeter-based start-up Funeral Zone allows bereaved to compare funeral directors in their local area and get advice on planning a funeral
Funeral Zone, an online resource which provides independent reviews of funeral directors, has closed £1m seed investment from a number of angel investors including The Minerva Business Angels.
Launched in 2013 by Ed Gallois and Kevin Homeyard, Exeter-based Funeral Zone’s nationwide directory enables the bereaved to compare funeral directors in their local area and gain access to help and advice on planning a funeral.

Gallois has said he was inspired to start the business after his close friend passed away and he struggled to find information online on what you should do first when someone dies; “I realised there was very little help out there for the bereaved”.
The funding will go towards expanding the site outside of the UK – Australia and South Africa are currently in the pipeline – with the company on target to double operations within the enxt six months.
Funeral Zone’s Gallois added:
“There are so many websites out there to support you if you’re arranging a wedding, planning a baby, or for other significant life events. So why not when we die?
“You need straightforward and practical information when you are grieving and at your most vulnerable. Our mission is to help the bereaved.”
