Vodafone set to open new incubation centre in Tech City
Telecoms giant aims to support the UK's technology start-up innovators
Europe’s fastest growing digital hub, Tech City is soon to be home to Vodafone’s new technology and information centre.
Following the success of the Silicon Valley-based Vodafone xone, which supports US start-ups, Vodafone will now aid the technology innovators of the UK, providing them with technical expertise and potential financial help.
Based in East London, the centre will also supply mobile internet and creative media start-ups with access to over 400 million international Vodafone customers.
The incubation centre, which is planned to open next year, will draw on the experience from the Vodafone’s corporate venture firm Vodafone Ventures, which has been investing in new businesses for over a decade.
Vodafone’s group research and development director Siavash Alamouti is confident that the new centre will provide a boost for UK technology start-ups: “This exciting new centre will build on our existing Vodafone xone facility in Silicon Valley, giving cutting-edge British high tech start-ups access to the expertise and global reach of Britain’s largest ICT company.
“We believe that the great talent, entrepreneurial spirit and wealth of start-up companies, in both the mobile internet and creative media industries that are to be found in East London, make Tech City a great location for this centre.”
