London Tech Week is finally here.
The festival, which first began in 2014, kicked off today at the Here East digital campus in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
The festival is an annual celebration of the UK technology sector and an opportunity to draw together all the constituent parts of the capital’s tech and digital industry. It’s a chance for investors, advisors, entrepreneurs, start-ups and tech enthusiasts to come together in support of everything that makes London a great place to start and scale a tech business.
This year, London Tech Week is bigger than ever before, with over 200 events running across the city during the course of the week.
With the eyes of the world on the UK, the week can help us showcase London as a global tech capital and prove that the city is looking to build on its burgeoning status as an international tech hub.
The week will allow the London tech community to take stock of the capital’s transformation over the last five years.
By developing a robust tech ecosystem made up from strong individual components, the city has reinvented itself as a global tech destination and cemented its status as a location for tech businesses across the globe.
Flexible working spaces that encourage collaboration, accelerator programmes built to drive innovation, support networks like Tech London Advocates and an investor community willing to back potential as well as experience, have all contributed to the city’s rapid rise in technology.
Last year, a start-up was born every 80 seconds in the UK. Many of these new businesses belong to our high-growth tech sector, which continues to expand over 30% faster than the wider economy.
London has been responsible for much of this growth, reflecting the critical mass of talented founders, investors, accelerators and incubators that precipitate an atmosphere where each idea is given the opportunity to flourish.
As London’s position as a global city faces new questions, London Tech Week 2017 is a chance to show the international community that London is well-and-truly open for business.
