Young Gun-founded Bright Network acquires millennial-focused platform WEXO

Recruitment firm Bright Network will integrate the internships portal’s commercial relationships and network of candidates...

It has been announced that WEXO, an internships portal helping candidates find paid placements in the creative industries, has been acquired by graduate careers website Bright Network.

The acquisition, which has taken place for an undisclosed sum, will see Bright Network incorporate WEXO’s existing platform, commercial relationships and network of candidates into its operations.

WEXO co-founder Robin Kennedy will join the business to offer his ten years’ recruitment experience as an advisor.

Founded by Young Gun James Uffindell in 2012, Bright Network has since attracted over 120,000 users, and aims to utilise data and technology to place them in graduate roles within its network of more than 300 employers, which includes Google, Dyson and HSBC.

Meanwhile WEXO, which launched in 2009, has connected students with high-growth start-ups that have gone on to become household names, including Fever Tree, Made.com and Skimlinks.

It has also placed candidates with larger companies such as Ralph Lauren, Condé Nast and Sony Music.

Over the last five years WEXO – along with joint venture partner Step – has also worked with the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising (IPA) to help the advertising industry recruit more talent with BAME (black, Asian, or minority ethnic) backgrounds and STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) experience.

According to research by Octopus Investments, less than 1% of the UK’s companies can be classed as high-growth small businesses. However, these businesses create one in three of the UK’s new jobs; a statistic which highlights the potential they offer to recruitment professionals.

Robin Kennedy, CEO and co-founder at WEXO, commented:

“We’re delighted to be joining forces with Bright Network. They have a strong, longstanding track record; they continue to innovate; and they adhere to our original vision – to democratise access to opportunity.”

James Uffindell, CEO and founder at Bright Network, commented: “WEXO has established strong links with dynamic businesses across the UK and built up a wealth of knowledge that we’re looking forward to tapping into.”
