Traditionally a tedious, confusing and expensive experience, the founders behind Startups 100 top 10 company eve Sleep saw an opportunity to turn the mattress industry on its bed with a disruptive digital model.

Launched in 2015 by dream team of industry, e-commerce and marketing veterans Jas Bagniewski, James Fryer, Kuba Wieczorek and Felix Lobkovich, Eve spent four years developing the “perfect mattress”. Its memory foam and latex-based mattress spans 11 sizes, from UK single to seven foot squared, and ranges from just £349 to a reasonable £899. The company delivers direct to its customers within “three sleeps”, and, confident in the quality of its product, offers a 100-night sleep trial, with the option to return if not satisfied.

To date, eve has raised £10m in funding including a £2.5m Series A in November 2015 and a £6.9m Series B in July from Channel 4, DN Capital and Octopus Ventures – which saw it launch a television advertising campaign with the broadcaster last month. And, as importantly, its sold an impressive 20,250 mattresses. This isn’t the first time the team have been involved in the space, previously selling 75,000 mattresses in 18 countries through an online operation a few years back. Now projecting £25m in turnover for next year (the business’ first full calendar year), it’s clear they’ve got what it takes to replicate that success.
