17 female CEO’s behind some of the UK’s fastest-growing tech firms are heading to Silicon Valley today on an inaugural programme by Silicon Valley Comes to the UK (SVC2UK), which will see them network with the likes of Google, LinkedIn, Silicon Valley Bank, and Facebook’s Sheryl Sandberg.
Ran in partnership with the British Consul General and the UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) team in San Francisco, the programme intends to help the UK female tech leaders scale their business and build new networks to “expand the reach” of women-led companies to the US market.
Angel investor and serial entrepreneur Sherry Coutu CBE will lead the programme and has organised sessions and networking receptions with high-profile US start-ups such as Silicon Valley Bank, Huddle, and NextDoor, as well as meetings with “Silicon Valley influencers” including Julia Harts of Eventbrite, and Xoxchi Birch of Monkey Inferno and The Battery SF.
Boasting annual company turnover growth rates of over 300%, the 17 females delegates chosen for the initiative include Jenny Griffiths of Snap Fashion, a 2013 Young Gun One to Watch, Julie Fowler of Startups 100-listed EDITD; awarded Young Gun status in 2012, and Brynne Herbert of MOVE Guides which was recently named in the 2014 Startups 100.

“I am delighted to be able to introduce these inspirational British business women growing their businesses hundreds-of-times faster than ‘normal’ or ‘average’ businesses to each other, fellow entrepreneurs, potential customers and partners in Silicon Valley so they will be able to share experiences and continue to grow their businesses as a direct result.”
Priya Guha, head of the British Consul General to San Francisco, added:
“It will be a unique experience for women-in-tech in both the US and UK, providing a first-ever opportunity for leading women entrepreneurs to have a meeting of minds and foster collaboration between British and American innovative businesses.”
