$1m search for world’s best social entrepreneurs launches
Chivas Regal's 2015 Venture competition is looking for business ideas which offer financial value and have a positive impact on society
A hunt to find the world’s most exciting social entrepreneurs has been re-launched today by whisky brand Chivas Regal, with a prize fund of over $1m for the winning business idea.
The global Venture 2015 competition is open to for-profit start-ups with the ability to create both financial value and have a positive impact on the lives of others.
Finalists from 25 countries will compete for a share of the $1m prize fund in the final, with each finalist granted £10,000 worth of funding, mentoring and a place on the Venture’s Accelerator Week.
Last year’s inaugural competition asked for start-ups to tackle social and environmental issues and saw Two Fingers Brewing Co. crowned as the UK winner.
A series of events will be held nationwide throughout October and November to enable British social entrepreneurs to meet and discuss their ideas for the competition. In London, The Trampery will host its ‘Don’t Pitch Me, Bro!’ event in conjunction with 3beards on October 29.
Will Waldron, co-founder of Two Fingers, said: “When we had the idea for a craft beer brand that would fight prostate cancer, one beer at a time, we just had to make it happen and we saw The Venture as the ideal launch pad to turbocharge the growth of the company.
“It has been a fantastic boost in profile for us, leading to multiple domestic and international enquiries and helping to open up distribution to over 16,000 on-trade venues in the UK.”
