20 spaces available in Wayra UK’s latest call for digital start-ups

Entrepreneurs asked to use technology to “solve the problems of the future”

Global innovation network Telefónica Open Future has announced a new call for technology and digital start-ups to join its tech accelerator Wayra, with 20 spaces available in the UK.

Having opened for applications on 21 September, entrants have until 11 October to present a project “that uses technology to solve the problems of the future” – which will be evaluated by a panel of experts on their characteristics and global potential.

Wayra is particularly interested in ideas involving the internet of things, big data, business intelligence, machine learning and cyber security, but is “not ruling out any option or market”.

Successful start-ups will be provided with a workspace, up to $50,000 in funding, mentorship and access to Telefónica’s network of entrepreneurs, investors and experts.

In total, 47 new spaces are available around the world, with a further 10 in Spain, three each in Venezuela and Chile, two in Argentina and one in Mexico.

Launched in 2011, Wayra has built a portfolio of more than 400 companies, throughout 10 countries, operating within 20 digital industries and with a total of €81.7m invested.
