Tell us what your business does:

Dribble Stop Tops, the first product range from our 2mums business, is a range of super soft and protective tops, which act as a solution to the many problems dribbling can bring for a little one. The tops have been designed to help keep your baby’s chest dry and healthy, without the safety issues that wearing a bib can bring.

Where did the idea for your business come from?

The product was created by two devoted mums, me (Tracy) and Emma, who came up with the idea to help solve a problem that we had experienced with our own babies.

How did you know there was a market for it?

Firstly, through our own experiences as mums. We also conducted lots of internet research – i.e. looking at Netmums and other similar forums and we visited local Sure Start centres, mother and baby groups etc. It soon became apparent that dribbling was not only a problem for babies but for children with ENT problems and other more severe disabilities.

What were you doing before starting up?

We were both full-time mums looking after our children and running our homes.

Have you always wanted to run your own business?

It was never something that either of us had dreamed of, it just somehow happened.

How did you raise the money?

We didn’t and that has been the biggest struggle as we have had to find the money out of our own (and our families) pockets, lots of boot fairs, selling via eBay and Avon rounds!

What challenges have you faced and how have you overcome them?

The biggest struggle has just been finding sufficient time to spend on the business. As we both have kids to look after it’s a struggle fitting it all in.

Describe your business model and how you make money:

My goodness – we are not sure we have one! We will make our money through the sale of our Dribble Stop Tops and hopefully the sale of our future products (we already have samples of these).

What was your first big breakthrough?

Getting interest from Boots – we knew by their buyers’ reaction that we had a good product. Then meeting our manufacturers ‘Casa Chicos’ and the fact that they were prepared to back us.

What advice would you give to budding entrepreneurs?

BELIEVE in your product. FOLLOW your dream. OVERCOME the obstacles that you WILL face. Keep a POSITIVE mental attitude and CHALLENGE the negative. DON’T be afraid to ASK (if you don’t ask you will never know!). KEEP your feet on the ground and SMILE! You CAN do it.

Where do you want to be in five years’ time?

Our aim is for the Dribble Stop brand and our other future products to be known and trusted by parents. We want to be a well-recognised, household name that provides dignity and comfort to children of all ages.
