Accelerate 250 index rises to 200 members

The scheme backed by Lord Young and Sir Terry Leahy rises with SUMO Drinks, Struq and Snap-Fashion founders among inductees

An index celebrating the entrepreneurs responsible for creating more than half of all new UK jobs has added another 50 names to its list.

Backed by former Tesco boss Sir Terry Leahy and Lord Young, 50 more founders representing the UK’s fastest growing businesses have been inducted into the Accelerate 250.

In preparation for the upcoming Accelerate 2013 event, organisers have been releasing the names of the entrepreneurs added to the 250-strong index at a rate of 50 a week.

Young Guns Richard Baister of the beverage company SUMO Drinks, Sam Barnett of advertising firm Struq and Kristo Käärmann of payments provider Transferwise were among those recognised.

Tracey Mellor, winner of the NatWest Fast Growth Business of the Year at the Fast Growth Business Awards in 2011 was also listed for her employee discounts company Asperity Employee Benefits as was Angel or VC-backed Business of the Year Startups Awards finalist Stef Lewandowski of the cloud platform, Aframe.

Other names added include Startups 100 and Fast Growth Business Awards winner Stephen Morana of property site Zoopla as well as Startups 100 and Startups Awards finalist Simona Popa of 3D tech business Poikos and Startups blogger Zoe Jackson for her performing arts company, Living the Dream.

The winners will be celebrated at Accelerate 2013, a one day business event which will take place in Liverpool on June 27.

Speakers at the event will include Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales and Martha Lane Fox, chair of karaoke bar chain Lucky Voice.
