Appear Here bags $7.5m to expand pop-up shop marketplace
Start-up founded by 22 year-old Young Gun Ross Bailey backed by Balderton Capital and MMC Ventures
The “UK’s” largest online marketplace for retail space Appear Here, featured in the Startups 100 2014, has announced a $7.5m fundraise led by Balderton Capital alongside MMC Ventures, Forward and Meyer Bergman.
Founded in 2012 by 22 year-old Young Gun Ross Bailey, Appear Here facilitates short-term lets and has over 600 properties available to hire across the UK in locations usch as London, Manchester and Glasgow.
In less than 18 months, the start-up has attracted several leading brands – from the likes of Google and Marc Jacobs to Jamie Oliver and Net-a-Porter – and it now intends to use the investment to ramp up growth.
The deal follows a series of recent achievements for the pop-up shop marketplace including its recent deal with Transport for London to market retail space in underground stations such as Tech City hub Old Street.
Commenting on the funding round, Appear Here founder Bailey, said: “We’re delighted that Balderton have come on board with this major round of funding.
“The investment enables international expansion in 2015, and also further investment in our customer service: we have already developed five-star service for customers – including a concierge service, and online contracts and payments, which make it even easier for people to turn their ideas into reality.”
As part of the deal, Balderton Capital partner Mark Evans will be joining Appear Here’s board. Evans commented:
