Barclays to enable Pingit payments over Twitter

First British bank to allow people to make transactions using just their Twitter handle

From next month businesses will be able to make Pingit payments using just their Twitter handle, as part of a new offering from Barclays.

Said to be a UK first, the bank will be launching Twitter payments on the Pingit app from March 10 on android and iOS devices. Users will able to link their Twitter handle to their Pingit profile and can then make the payment, free of charge, within three clicks.

The service will be available to all Pingit customers in the UK whether you bank with Barclays or not.

The bank intends for the launch to help it reach a potential 13.5 million Twitter users as Barclays Mobile Banking and Pingit director, Darren Foulds explained:

“Adding the ability to pay people or a small business using just a Twitter handle brings together a social and digital experience to create a new step forward for mobile payments in the UK.”
