Europe’s 25 Corporate Startup Stars winner provides an open competition to source and integrate new start-up talent

For the past eight years, multinational Spanish banking group BBVA has been building relationships with over 3,200 fintech start-ups, through its Open Talent Competition.

The aim is to bring new digital companies into the organisation – a goal that BBVA’s New Business Development Unit supports.

In 2015 it acquired a 29.5% stake in the UK’s first mobile-only bank, Atom.

A sizeable venture capital partnership, Propel, demonstrates BBVA’s commitment to developing new talent, as does the way the company integrates this into its core business.

For example, the 2014 Open Talent winner Socure is now helping to improve BBVA’s customer service, while the 2015 winner, Destacame, is collaborating with BBVA to serve underbanked customers.
