Bookatable acquires Spanish rival

Spanish reservation service is used by 5,000 establishments and was used to book 700,000 covers last year

Bookatable by Michelin, the UK-based restaurant reservation platform, has acquired Spanish restaurant booking competitor

Founded in 2006, Bookatable provides restaurant reservation services 16 countries. It was acquired by French tyre manufacturer Michelin in January this year to accelerate its expansion into Europe.

The acquisition will see the UK company expand into a huge potential market – more than 5,000 establishments use the system and more than 700,000 covers were booked in 2015.

Michel Cassius, CEO of Bookable, commented: “We are pleased to welcome the Restaurantes team and their partners into the Bookatable by Michelin network.

“With this acquisition, Bookatable continues its expansion and has strengthened its position as the European leader in the online restaurant reservation market”.

Antonio Fernández and Jesus Alonso Gallo, Restaurantes co-founders, said: “This alliance is the perfect platform to serve the restaurants, providing them with innovative reservation management and marketing tools, and also the users, giving them access to the largest selection of restaurants in Europe.”
