Britain is becoming a “Brewing Powerhouse”

Demand for craft beer on the up with three new breweries opening every week, creating almost 900,000 jobs

The UK is in the midst of a “craft beer boom” with three new breweries opening up each week, new figures from the government reveal.

The data reports that demand for microbreweries and craft beer, identified as an emerging business opportunity in 2014, has surged over the last two years with the beer and pub sector now supporting over 896,000 jobs.

Independent breweries such as BrewDog, Camden Town Brewery and London Fields Brewery are said to be leading this boom, with many budding craft beer entrepreneurs looking to follow in their success.

Marcus Jones, community pubs minister, commented: “Britain is back on the map as a global Brewing Powerhouse.

“We gave the world the IPA and the Great British pint has been revered ever since. This brewing boom means we are not only creating some of the world’s best beer that we all enjoy in our local pub and at home but also thousands of jobs and a multi billion-pound boost to the economy.”
