The 100 British tech firms with the fastest-growing sales over the last three years have been revealed in the latest Sunday Times Hiscox Tech Track 100; the annual league table which ranks “industry-defining” British tech companies.
Compiled by Fast Track using year-on-year turnover figures, the index listed foreign exhance trading platform LMAX Exchange; a spin-out from Betfair, as the top fast-growth tech business having boasted average sales growth of 308% per year with annual sales at £18.4m for 2013.
Keyboard app Swiftkey, founded by 2012 Young Guns Dr Ben Medlock and Jon Reynolds, ranked in third place with 219% sales growth, alongside fellow Young Gun-founded affiliate marketing company Skimlinks which was listed at number 17 with 113% sales growth.
Startups 100-listed peer-to-peer loan site Zopa, digital agency ustwo; founded by 2012 Young Guns Matt Miller and John Sinclair, and high-speed connectivity firm Fluidata, established by 2013 Young Gun Piers Daniell, also featured in the tech league table.
The report claims that the 100 companies together employ around 14,000 staff, and have added more than 10,000 jobs since 2010.
In a separate ‘Ones to Watch’ index of companies who didn’t make the sales criteria but forecast strong sales growth over the next 12 months, Tech Track named several start-ups including going-out app YPlan; Simply Business Startups of the Year at the 2013 Startup Awards, currency exchange site Transferwise, and mobile marketing firm Fetch; companies all founded by Growing Business Young Guns.
Hiscox UK and Europe managing director, Steve Langan, said of the Tech Track 100: “It takes a number of qualities to be recognised as a Tech Track 100 business. Having well defined company values, a focus on nurturing talent, achieving customer satisfaction, and an eye on future-proofing your business are all important attributes.
“Every single one of these businesses is contributing to the UK economy, and that should give us all confidence that Britain’s tech scene is in rude health.”
