Burger King celebrating whopping franchise success

Landmark outlet and record profits announced

Burger King has joint cause for celebration following the opening of its 3,000th restaurant and the revelation that last year saw record profits of $2.6 billion.

The fast food giant opened its landmark outlet in, appropriately, Hamburg in Germany. The opening rounds off an impressive five years of continual growth despite the slowing global demand for convenience foods.

Burger King has increased its number of franchised restaurants by 62 per cent over the last five years and has edged ahead of rivals McDonalds to be the market leader in 12 countries across the globe.

Nine out of ten Burger King outlets are now run by franchisees.

Brad Blum, chief executive officer at Burger King, said: “The 3,000th Burger King restaurant opening in our international markets is symbolic in that it underscores our achievement of strategic milestones resulting in very strong performance.

“Our operational excellence and customer focused service reflects the strength of the Burger King brand.

“We will continue to focus on quality, innovation, operational excellence and differation of our flame-grilled products as we look toward new levels of customer satisfaction, revenue growth and overall excellence in 2003,” he said.
