Business growth programme launched to help create global “success stories”

Sherry Coutu-backed Growth Builder initiative will select initial cohort of 50 high-growth British firms to receive coaching and support to scale up

Growth Builder, a new public and private-backed business growth programme, has launched today and is looking for high growth British businesses to apply.

Designed by entrepreneurs, in collaboration with leading banks, universities and the government, the 12-month programme will deliver monthly events, workshops and coaching groups to help companies reach the next stage of growth.

An initial cohort of 50 firms will be chosen by a panel of industry experts, based on their previous successes and future potential. Applicants should have either revenue of £1.5m or 20 employees and have achieved 20% year-on-year growth over the last two years.

Applications opened today during a launch event at BT Tower, with the first programme set to begin in April 2016.

Ed Wray, co-founder of Betfair, said: “British start-ups are doing a great job, but more can be done to help them scale to become global and industry-leading success stories. Growth Builder has been designed to tackle some of the current barriers to this.”

Sherry Coutu CBE, serial entrepreneur and investor, commented: “The UK is leading the world in the creation of innovative and fast-growth start-up companies – we have much to be proud of.

“I look forward to seeing the impact this programme will have on productivity and UK economic growth for years to come.”
