Chemist Direct hires new CEO

Former Young Gun Mitesh Soma hopes new hire will help make his firm “a household name”

Mitesh Soma, founder of Chemist Direct and a former finalist in the Growing Business Young Guns awards, has appointed a new CEO for his burgeoning business.

Stuart Rowe will join the company from e-tailer, where he was managing director. He will assume his new role in the spring.

During his six years at Play, Rowe has helped the Jersey-based company increase its customer base to 7 million, and become one the world’s 50 biggest online retail firms. His achievements earned him a place on Retail Week’s ‘Etail Power List’ in 2010.

Chemist Direct, which offers more than 30,000 health and beauty products online, has already reached £15m turnover and has notched more than 1 million customers since its launch in 2008. Soma hopes his new hire’s online nous will trigger even more impressive growth.

Soma said: “The rapid expansion of Chemist Direct means we need strong day to day management. Stuart will bring a wealth of experience in e-commerce and shares our ambition to make Chemist Direct a household name.

“I am delighted he has accepted my offer to join us at such an exciting time.”
