Cisco BIG Awards deadline extended

£125,000 in funding available for successful applicants

Cisco has announced an extension to the deadline for its British Innovation Gateway (BIG) Awards, a competition for innovative UK start-ups.

The awards are now open until May 1, and are open to all UK start-ups and entrepreneurs over the age of 18.

The scheme is designed to unearth disruptive business ideas across five key categories: big data, collaboration, future cities, mobility and the internet of things. Interested parties are invited to submit a business idea in any of these categories, in 250 words or less.

The best entries will progress through a four-stage judging process, with six elite applicants presenting their ideas to an expert judging panel on September 12.

The winners will each receive funding of around $200,000 (£125,000), in addition to PR and marketing support, legal services and training.

The awards are part of Cisco’s wider BIG initiative, a five-year strategy to stimulate British innovation through cash and human resources. Phil Smith, CEO of Cisco UK and Ireland, said:

“The annual BIG Awards enable us to uncover, celebrate, recognise and reward the UK’s best innovators and if you are a start-up or SME in the digital sector, this is a fantastic opportunity to showcase your business.

“There is a huge pool of untapped talent in the UK and we’ve already seen some fantastic entries so far”.
