Former city trader Tim Whipman is celebrating his decision to leave the “corporate grind” behind and join Tutor Doctor as a franchisee, achieving entrepreneurial success just five months after starting his business in Chiswick.
Whipman, who joined after meeting the Tutor Doctor team at The Franchise Show in London, is on target to reach £250,000 turnover by the end of his first year, having worked to help local children succeed in education.
Attracting his first clients with PPC (pay-per-click) campaigns, Whipman has said that he also distributed flyers, held local events and travelled in a Tutor Doctor-branded car to facilitate business growth.
Launched in 2003, Tutor Doctor claims to be the fastest-growing home tutoring franchise brand globally, with 17,000 tutors across 15 countries. The brand opened its 500th franchise in late 2016.
On his decision to become a franchisee, Whipman said:
“When you are setting up a new business, there’s an opportunity to be involved with the marketing, the accounting, the legal side and the one-to-one interactions with various families and people in the community locally, which really appealed to me.”
He added: “I expect to increase turnover by at least 40% to 50% per year hereon.”
