Cloud-based hosted desktop service for small businesses and flexible workers announced

Microsoft-backed WeWorkEverywhere enables users to access virtual Windows desktops from any device

A hosted desktop service targeted at small and medium-sized businesses and remote workers is set to launch next week, delivered by IT consultancy Northdoor in partnership with Microsoft.

WeWorkEverywhere will allow users of any computer or mobile device to connect to its hosted solution and access their home Windows desktop, files and applications ‘anywhere, anytime’.

The platform works in a similar fashion to the internet banking model in that it is operated in the cloud and once you login to the service you will see a replica desktop which has the same ‘look and feel’ as your current desktop PC or laptop.

Unveiled at a roundtable event at London’s Institute of Directors by Northdoor’s head of cloud services, Richard Reggel, the service is said to be “the first of its kind” to utilise Microsoft’s Windows Azure cloud platform and combine it with the solutions of technology company Citrix.

Reggel claims that its hosted desktop offering, which will operate on a monthly subscription basis, allows small companies to save money as users can operate their existing PC’s and won’t need to replace or upgrade their desktop units and hardware to access the service.

For businesses with fewer than 50 employees, WeWorkEverywhere will cost approximately £40 per user, with the option of adding services such as Microsoft Office for £10 per month, and for 50 users or more prices start at £35 per month.

With cloud hosted desktop services such as Amazon’s Workspaces already available on the market, Reggel discussed what makes WeWorkEverywhere’s solution unique:

“Every organisation wants controllable IT costs and predictable pricing but that can be hard to achieve if you are a rapidly changing business. WeWorkEverywhere offers price certainty and a solution that is priced according to a businesses’ needs. Organisations only pay for what they use.

“WeWorkEverywhere gives users freedom to work remotely, to rapidly scale their business without impacting on productivity and to meet fast changing customer demands.”
