Crimson purchases main Startups.co.uk rival

Crimson Publishing, publishers of Startups.co.uk, has bought the company behind BusinessEurope.com

Crimson Publishing, the company behind Startups.co.uk, is delighted to announce the purchase of BusinessEurope.com, previously our largest rival in providing news and advice to startup businesses.

ICP Europe Publishing Ltd, publishers of BusinessEurope.com and Venturedome.com, was acquired by Crimson for an undisclosed sum.

The move strengthens Startups.co.uk’s position as the UK’s largest online resource for people want to start and run their own business.

The site was named the Association of Online Publishers (AOP) business website of the year in 2003, beating off competition from, among others, the Financial Times.

Attracting over 75,000 readers a month, Startups.co.uk is set to continue to be the first port of call for thousands of budding entrepreneurs.

David Lester, managing director of Crimson, welcomed the purchase of ICP.

“We have long admired the quality of news generated daily about the small and medium sized business world by ICP, as well as Venturedome.com.

“In addition, we have been very impressed with the work ICP has done for business intermediaries such as Business Links, Investors in People and the British Chamber of Commerce.

“The acquisition cements Crimson’s position as the leading information provider to small and medium sized businesses in the UK.

“Alongside our other plans, this deal will help us reach even more businesses with the high quality information they want and need,” he said.

The move was also greeted warmly by Ian Jindal, chief executive of ICP.

“Crimson brings the necessary investment, management and operations to take the titles forward.

“David and his team understand the sector. The acquisition will be welcomed by staff and clients,” he said.
