Davina McCall heads up seven-figure investment in TV and learning app for pre-schoolers
Hopster offers library of U-rated on-demand shows
On-demand children’s TV and learning app Hopster today announced it has raised a seven-figure sum from a group of leading investors, including television presenter Davina McCall.
Founded by Nick Walters, Hopster is an iOS app aimed at children aged between two and six, providing them with a large library of on-demand children’s shows via a £3.99 per month subscription model, as well as a range of educational games.
Since launching five months ago on iPad, Hopster has been featured of one of Apple’s ‘Best New Apps’ on its UK App Store, and has become one of the top 20 downloaded apps for children aged five and under.
It is the first app in the UK to receive a ‘U’ rating from the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC), signalling Hopster’s suitability for children of all ages.
The seven-figure investment, the exact terms of which were not disclosed, comes as Hopster releases iPhone and iPod touch versions of its app in order to widen its reach in the UK – 77% of families with children between two and six already have access to an iOS device.
The investment comes from a group of leading institutional and private investors, including TV presenter Davina McCall, senior media executives Bhavneet Singh and Tony Orsten, and the government-backed Angel CoFund.

“You want apps that are fun but also educational and the people behind Hopster seem to have found the sweet spot in getting that balance just right. The U-rating alone should assure parents that Hopster is the safest choice for their toddlers.”
