Co-founder of Unruly - the company behind the 'compare the meerkat' ads - and a champion for female entrepreneurs, will this tech enterprise mogul join the Dragons?
Name: Sarah Wood
Industry: Tech, advertising, marketing, education
Co-founder of social video advertising platform Unruly, Sarah Wood is the creative mind behind ad campaigns such as Dove’s ‘real beauty sketches’, Evian’s
‘roller babies’ and the popular ‘compare the meerkat’ ads. In 2015, Wood – who won Female Entrepreneur of the Year at Startups’ former Fast Growth Business Awards and has attracted accolades from a number of publications – alongside co-founders Scott Button and Matthew Cooke sold Unruly to Rupert Murdoch’s NewsCorp for £114m. With the sale making her cash-rich, and with a number of recent public appearances to her name, Wood definitely fits the profile of a potential Dragon investor.
Through her free pop-up City Unrulyversity, Wood is committed to teaching the next generation of tech entrepreneurs so she might well be tempted to take a seat in the Den; the perfect platform from which to directly support budding tech businesses. And with a passion for encouraging more businesswomen into the tech space, it’s likely that Wood will be keen to invest in disruptive female-led enterprises. What’s more, Wood would stand out as an icon for Dragons’ Den hopefuls, having successfully made the leap from lecturing in literature at Sussex University to starting a business in 2006.
