Dragons’ Den: The good, the bad and the ugly from series 12
Startups offers a weekly synopsis from the Den, sharing the most notable pitches, entrepreneurs and key start-up business lessons
It’s now a dozen seasons in for BBC Two’s wildly popular investment show, and if the last season was anything to go by, the latest glut of episodes will serve up a fresh array of genius business ideas, nervous entrepreneurs, perfect pitches and all-out disasters for our viewing pleasure.
Last season saw the introduction of two new Dragons, Kelly Hoppen and Piers Linney, with Linney presented with particularly large shoes to fill following the departure of Den mainstay Theo Paphitis. The duo are now well settled in the Den, and have even established themselves as a kind of double act – undercutting the more experienced Dragons with joint offers on a number of occasions. An alliance between a cloud computing pioneer and an interior designer always seemed like an unusual mix of skills, and time will tell whether they continue this budding partnership without as much pressure to prove themselves to viewers.
In this ongoing feature, you will find summaries of all the notable pitches on the show following each week’s episode – so if you don’t have the time to watch it at work or simply want a recap of the important happenings, look to this feature. As well as the pitches which received investments, we cover some honourable mentions – those that nearly made it, went on to make it elsewhere (Gousto springs to mind), or whose nightmarish experience in the Den we can all learn from.
