Elance-oDesk re-launches as Upwork to enable you to hire freelancers in real-time
New platform includes enhanced matching algorithms, mobile app, work status feature and "Slack-like" group collaboration options
Leading freelancer marketplace Elance-oDesk has re-launched as Upwork with a new, updated platform said to help businesses access freelance talent quicker.
The new platform includes real-time hiring features to help companies find freelancers “in minutes” using enhanced matching algorithms, a work status feature so freelancers can set their availability and a new mobile app where businesses can post jobs, submit proposals and review applicants.
A real-time group collaboration tool has also been added which Upwork claims is similar to Slack but completely free and allows clients to file share and communicate.
The re-launch will enable the company to tap into the growing freelancer market with an estimated 4.2 million self-employed professionals now operating in the UK.
Commenting on the news, Upwork CEO Stephane Kasriel, said: “There is literally an earth-sized talent pool of freelance professionals out there, and yet most businesses still limit their thinking to rigid local hiring models.
“Upwork’s launch signals a new chapter of work in which people are able to hire quality talent — regardless of where the professional happens to be.Freelancers were already earning $1 billion annually via Elance-oDesk — I predict they will earn $10bn annually via Upwork within six years.”
