Ella’s Kitchen sold to American health food giant
UK-based baby food business acquired by Hain Celestial Group
British baby food business Ella’s Kitchen Group Limited has been sold to the Hain Celestial Group Inc, which in 2012 recorded worldwide net sales of $1.37bn.
Known as one of the largest makers of natural, organic, and kosher health food products in the US, as well as its Earth’s Best range of infant foods, Hain has made a series of strategic acquisitions in recent times, such as the Cully & Sully, Europe’s Best, and Daniels Group, owners of New Covent Garden Soup brand.
It has moved quickly in 2013 to further add to its portfolio and having snapped up one of the fastest growing UK brands in Ella’s Kitchen, the company will take a central role in growing its early years brands.
The brand will join the Global Infant, Toddler and Kids division of Hain, with Ella’s Kitchen founder Paul Lindley serving as the new chief executive of the department.
Founded in 2006 in Lindley’s daughter’s playroom, Ella’s Kitchen has since grown to take a 17% share in the British infant food market with its range of organic baby foods. It has ranked in the Sunday Times’ list of top 25 fastest growing companies since 2009.
The company has won a number of awards since launch, including Startups Awards’ Micro Business of the Year 2006, Startups 100 in 2008 and the International Business of the Year title in the Fast Growth Business Awards 2011.
Ella’s Kitchen will remain based in the UK under the deal, with the brand joining with Hain’s similar range of Earth’s Best organic foods in the US.
