Entrepreneurs’ cars: Nissan GT-R

"Impatient" entrepreneur Adam Gore loves a "ridiculously fast" car but admits it does not necessarily fit with his online gift business…

The Nissan GT-R is not a car you will forget in a hurry. Its beefy, angular look belies its Japanese design – Nissan’s chief creative officer has likened it to giant robots found in Japanese manga – and it stands in sharp contrast to the more rounded, restrained styles found on European sports cars. Indeed, GT-R owner Adam Gore admits that there may be differences of opinion in what it says about him. “I think it says I like power, beauty and speed,” he says, “but others probably say it means I’m selfish, egotistical and under-endowed!”

But despite what others might think, the founder of online gift retailer Findmeagift.co.uk says he could not be happier with the GT-R. “I love the adrenaline and excitement of it,” Gore enthuses, adding that the supercharged 3.8L twin-turbo V6 engine is “ridiculously fast”. “I’m always late – and very impatient – so I love the fact it can effortlessly overtake slow-moving vehicles.”

And Gore is more than qualified to comment on the GT-R’s advantages, having owned a string of supercars in the past, including the Porsche 911, the Ferrari 360, the Ferrari 430, and the Lamborghini Gallardo. Gore said he selected the GT-R because he was “sick” of the depreciation in value of the other cars he had owned, adding that it was “such a waste of very hard-earned money”. In contrast to the other models, Gore says the GT-R is “amazing value” for the performance it delivers, enthusing especially about the “handling and stability, coupled with amazing power.”

When pressed about whether the GT-R’s turbocharged performance and striking design reflects the values of his own business, Gore elects for a modest response. “It doesn’t fit with my business, because the values of my business are made up from all the employees and managers,” he says. “It matches my own values, but I am only one cog in the Find Me a Gift machine.”

Whilst it might not be immediately evocative of an online gift retailer, Gore says the Nissan GT-R has been a hit with business partners, adding that he gets “lots of positive comments” about it from “all sorts of people”. “I think it says I appreciate power and speed – but also good value,” he adds. “I think that clients and suppliers think I am a normal bloke that is comfortable with people from all walks of life.”
