Startups Cup business marks move into Europe with acquisition

Events discovery app start-up Frugl today announced the acquisition of Munich-based competitor Tickethelden, set to facilitate an instant launch in Germany for the young business.

Launched in March 2014, Frugl was launched as an app for Londoners to find low-cost and free events and activities across the capital by connecting them with promoters.

Featured in Startups’ Tech Pitch series and a competitor in the Startups Cup, it is one of a growing number of last-minute events apps targeted at the capital, which also include DesignMyNight and YPlan.

The acquisition of Tickethelden, for an undisclosed sum, will allow Frugl to quickly leverage the German company’s userbase and connections to launch in the country.

Founded in 2013, Tickethelden sells last-minute tickets to events across Germany and has grown to encompass a network of around 100,000 users, spread across the cities of Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg and Munich.

Final negotiations over the deal took place at last week’s European Pirate Summit in Cologne, with the purchase completed shortly after.
