Expansion on cards for Mac Tools franchisee after just one year in business

Former mechanic Alan Johnson is looking to add a second van to his operation as franchising continues to become popular choice for budding entrepreneurs

A franchisee for Mac Tools is set to take his next “big step” in franchising less than 12 months after joining the automotive chain.

Alan Johnson, a former mechanic from Glasgow, left his career to become an entrepreneur in July last year and is now looking to expand his mobile business with the purchase of a second van to “maximise the number of customers he can service”.

Johnson has said that he chose to become a franchisee for Mac Tools as he already knew the products well and thought it would be an “easy choice”; “I’m earning more than I have ever earned in the past and for the first time in years, I have zero credit as well as savings in the bank.”

Part of US trade equipment firm Stanley Black & Decker, Mac Tools is a successful international distribution franchise and has franchise units available from £50,000 (liquid capital £3,750) which includes specialised business and marketing training, initial stock costs and continued support.

On his franchise experience to date, Johnson continued:

“The training at the Mac Tools offices in Sheffield is fantastic, it’s very in-depth and informative. […] Once you are on the road, there is always someone you can call when you need help, be it your regional manager, customer services or the other franchisees; we all help each other out because we are not in competition with each other. We are a team.”
