7 fantastic female-founded businesses launched in 2017

From virtual reality apps to lingerie, in order of launch, take a look at our pick of the most inspirational start-ups founded this year with women at the helm

Here at Startups, we love to celebrate and champion women in business.

While female entrepreneurship is undoubtedly on the rise, and it certainly feels like there’s a growing spotlight on successful female-founded start-ups, the stark reality is that women are still severely underrepresented in business.

According to the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor, men are twice as likely as women to be entrepreneurs.

But, while the stats still aren’t great, they are slowly improving (the proportion of women entering business has actually risen by 45% in the last three years) and working in the small business landscape it does feel like there is a shift happening and the balance is gradually beginning to be redressed.

And we want to do as much as we can to support and encourage more women to enter business.

Looking back across the last 12 months, we’ve been lucky enough to encounter a whole range of innovative and exciting start-ups with inspirational women at the helm, so we thought we’d showcase a few of our favourites that launched this year.

From a first of its kind virtual reality software for first aid to a hotly-anticipated lingerie range that’s been four years in the making, we’ve handpicked seven exciting start-ups from 2017 to share with you.

So, if you’re looking for some business inspiration and want to join with us in celebrating fantastic female enterprise, look no further.
