December 2 announced as date for fifth Small Business Saturday

Last year's event trended at number one on Twitter and saw £717m spent with small businesses across the country

Small Business Saturday, the nationwide campaign to promote the UK’s five million strong small business community, will take place on Saturday 2 December this year.

Since launching in 2013, spend on the day has risen by 53%, with £717m spent supporting small businesses in the UK during last year’s event alone.

Over 80% of all local authorities were involved in the 2016 campaign, with over 130,000 tweets sent out to an estimated audience of 140 million people. Small Business Saturday UK trended at number one in the UK and at number five globally.

Events will be planned across the country in the run-up to the event, including the annual nationwide bus tour and a series of free workshops and Q&As run by experts and streamed live online.

As usual, the annual search for the Small Biz 100 will look to profile a new business on each day of the 100 days leading up to the event.
