With flash sales sites overcrowding his inbox with fantastic offers on products he didn’t want, young entrepreneur Bertie Stephens decided to create a site that provides discounts on the items customers actually require.

Users send in a link to the product they want, at the lowest price they could find and Flubit contacts the merchants directly to negotiate a discount.

After a translation error that saw a French private investor agreeing to pledge £50,000 instead of the £5,000 that was suggested by the founder, Flubit has continued to draw in the cash.

The money-saving start-up has since secured a total of $2.75m from business angels including Pierre Andurand of BlueGold Capital Management and Patrick Perez of Neuron Data and Blaze Software.

Originally developed in Stephens’ spare room, the start-up is now housed in offices in London’s Tech City, with a staff base of 35 and a valuation at $4m.
