Welcome to the Startups Forum! We observe the following common forum rules and ask that you, as a member of the community, will do so as well.
Deleting / Editing Posts
We reserve the right to delete topics or posts that are off-topic or detrimental to the community, but it is not the general policy to edit or delete forum posts unless they are spam, harassing, illegal, or outright abuse. We will not delete your post or remove your link just because an internet search for a term brings up the forums before your website.
When someone posts in a thread and people contribute answers, that the thread becomes part of the community resource for others to benefit from and deleting posts removes this added value.
Forum topics will only be edited or deleted at the discretion of the moderators if they represent a valid legal, security, or safety concern.
Please do not post things you do not want to be made public. Please be aware of the sensitivity of posting email addresses.
Accounts are not deleted, not even for obvious spammers, to provide us with an audit trail of users. We’ll miss you if you no longer wish to post here, but if you decide you don’t want to use the forums any more, simply log off and don’t return.
Usernames cannot be changed either. If you want to use a different username, then create the new username and stop using the old one.
We need to keep the forums friendly, so, occasionally, topic content will be moderated. This might mean anything from the light editing of some posts to complete removal of topics and deactivation of accounts. It should really go without saying, but the following are likely candidates for moderation:
- Harassment. This should be simple, but please don’t harass or abuse people.
- Spam and affiliate links, duplicate posts, offensive posts, posts without content and references to adult content.
- Posting in all caps. This is considered shouting and is rude.
Please note that this list is not exhaustive. Every post is judged on its own merits.
Creating your account
When creating an account you must not have avatars or signatures which contain branding, names, details or contact information for commercial enterprises which they own, represent or affiliate with, or any other website competing with Startups.co.uk.
Please do not abuse the ratings system. Either by soliciting positive ratings in posts or by private conversations (positive ratings must be earned legitimately) or by using ratings inappropriately to rile members.
