Grand Designs star seeks £1m Crowdcube investment for Hab Housing

Kevin McCloud sets £1.5m fundraising target with £1m via crowdfunding platform for sustainable architecture company

Channel 4’s Grand Designs star Kevin McCloud has advertised a 13% equity stake in sustainable architecture company Hab Housing on crowdfunding platform Crowdcube, setting a funding target of £1m.

Somerset-based Hab Housing, founded in 2007, aims to address the housing shortage by building 1,000 environmentally friendly properties a year from 2018.

The properties will be built at low prices with contextual design; seeking to avoid what McCloud terms ‘identikit Noddy houses’.

McCloud’s business will offer up to 50% self-build plots on the mixed housing projects, with the first scheme likely to be based at a site in Chippenham, Wiltshire.

The £1m funding sought will be used to grow the company’s existing architecture business as well as to develop a custom build offering, aiming to enable customers to build their own homes in a sustainable fashion.

McCloud’s company is well on course to meet its crowdfunding target, already raising more than £280,000 from 92 investors on the platform at the time of writing – with this figure rising by the minute and with 54 days before the pitch expires.
