Founded in 1965, Silicon Valley-based Greylock is one of the oldest venture capital firms in the world and has LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman among its board of partners.
Greylock invests in funding rounds of all stages from seed to growth round such as Series C and D. With a special focus on consumer internet and enterprise software, the fund has backed some of the most successful businesses of the last 10 years such as Airbnb, Facebook, Dropbox, Tumblr and LinkedIn and boasts 170 successful IPOs and 120 mergers and acquisitions. Gambling platform Betable raised a staggering $18.5m in a Series A round involving Greylock at the end of 2013; taking its total funding to $23m. Based in London with an office in San Francisco, Betable enables developers to legally add real-money gambling tools into games and aims to capitalise on the $43bn gambling market. An innovative offering was key to the company securing funding with fellow participating VC firm Venture51 stating that Betable will “follow in the footsteps of PayPal and Skype”.
