Healthy food business: Bio-tiful Dairy

This cultured yoghurt brand is driving a trend for fermented foods. A recent Dragons’ Den appearance and a host of stockists makes Bio-tiful one to watch

Mission statement: Intelligent eating
One-line elevator pitch: Organic, cultured milks made in the UK – Kefir and Ryazhenka
Stocked with: Ocado, Riverford Farms, Planet Organic,Harrods, Booths, Selfridges, Daylesford, Booths, Fortnum & Mason, Natural Kitchen London

The story

Russian-born entrepreneur Natasha Bowes grew up drinking Kefir – an organic fermented milk drink – as an “essential part of her diet” to keep “fit and healthy”. As a former professional athlete for the Russian figure skating team, she would drink kefir on a daily basis. But, on moving to London, Bowes found that she couldn’t find anything similar to the Kefir she was used to in her mother country and set about creating her own. A good source of protein, high in vitamins and low on lactose, Bowes' Kefir range comes in three flavours: organic, honey and mint, and Morello cherry. Bowes has also launched a Riazhenka drink; a sweeter cultured baked version of Kefir.

Why Bio-tiful Dairy makes our list:

Fermented food is a huge trend of 2016 and Bio-tiful is capitalising on this trend with its yoghurt drinks range which promises to improve digestion, help the immune system, reduce tiredness and more. While Bowes recently walked away from BBC show Dragons’ Den empty-handed, retail appetite for Bio-tiful shows no signs of slowing down with the range now stocked in a number of stores offline and online including Ocado, Selfridges and Harrods.

What the critics say:

“Forget green smoothies, a fermented milk drink called kefir is what the health addicts are glugging now.” – The Telegraph
