HMRC endorses range of mobile accounting apps

Tax authority helps entrepreneurs manage bookkeeping on-the-go

HMRC has come out in support of entrepreneurs by endorsing a range of accounting apps.

The new technology – which is designed to lighten the burden for busy business owners – has been created with a number of software partners, to help users keep on top of their accounts.

Among the eight accredited applications is Intuit’s MyBizTracker for the iPhone, which allows users to capture and store photo records of invoices and receipts. The Sage Record Keeper app, Forbes Receipt Keeper for Android, and Moneybox for Windows Phone 7 are also included in the series.

Pernille Bruun-Jensen, vice president of Intuit, said: “Smartphones and apps have transformed the way businesses operate, by providing simple tools to make running businesses easier – particularly for those just starting out.”

David Gauke, exchequer secretary, added: “These apps…can help small businesses feel more confident about their record-keeping and provide a direct link to their finances, freeing up time which can be better spent on the day-to-day running of the business.”
