Freshly prepared dishes cooked by a talented local chef, then delivered straight to your door

Founder: Simon Prockter
Launched: September 2011

Inspired by a plethora of mediocre take-aways – and serving a growing appetite for gourmet food in the home – housebites is reinventing the £1.6bn UK take-away market, promising consumers a better experience and chefs a better lifestyle and earning potential.

Housebites enables customers to order food from top local chefs, which is delivered to their door – “for the price of a pizza”. The website operates a marketplace model, with chefs working from home on a franchise basis. Users simply enter their postcode to find chefs in their local area; they can then peruse the dishes on offer; read their biographies, and even see how others have rated their wares before making a decision.

Founder Simon Prockter has assembled a top-notch team, including advisor Paul Birch, co-founder of Bebo, and head chef chef Andy Oliver, BBC MasterChef finalist in 2009 – while its network includes chefs who have worked at The Ivy and Le Caprice.

Together, they are shaking up a market which, Prockter says, “hasn’t been disrupted in many years”.
