Independent retailers encouraged to get involved with Independents’ Day

Today marks national campaign to celebrate UK’s independent businesses

Independent businesses across the country are today participating in Independents’ Day, a national campaign which looks to promote the UK’s independent retail, hospitality and tourism companies.

Running for its fourth year, the campaign looks to showcase the value of independent shops to the local community by getting independent businesses to hold activities on the day to encourage footfall.

The campaign also aims to raise awareness of the support available to independent stores to help them grow and become more competitive.

Events and promotions running across the country in aid of the campaign include discount initiatives from Bristol-based independent food company Friska, a prize draw in Guildford, Surrey, for those that shop independent today, and free business workshops in Bexley and Sidcup.

The British Independent Retailers Association (bira), Labour MP Chucka Umunna, and entrepreneur and Dragon Theo Pathitis have all backed the initiative and are urging businesses and consumers to share their support.
