International Festival for Business 2016 unveiled by Vince Cable

Festival will aim to foster UK business connections and create opportunities with the global marketplace

The UK’s IFB 2016 (International Festival for Business) has been announced by business secretary Vince Cable to be held in Liverpool from 13 June to 1 July 2016.

The Festival will bring together thousands of UK businesses, providing a unique platform to make global connections. The event follows last year’s inaugural IFB, which was estimated to have been responsible for more than £300m of trade and investment deals – and the creation of 10,000 jobs by 2017.

The Festival is part of the government’s The GREAT Britain campaign and looks to reinforce the UK’s reputation as a global hub trade and business. According to research carried out by UKTI, Britain attracted record levels of inward investment between 2013 and 2014.

Plans for the future event will be unveiled today at a preview event with Cable and a host of business and government leaders including – UK vice president of Google Matt Brittin and chairman of the IFB 2016 Max Steinberg CBE. It will focus on the Festivals two key audience groups – international brands in Britain and UK companies with export ambitions.

Cable said: “The success of the inaugural International Festival of Business in 2014 was a demonstration of our determination for the UK to remain a top destination for foreign investment, and I’m sure IFB 2016 will be an even more ambitious event.

“Our economy is outperforming many of our rivals and now more than ever investors are looking for opportunities in Britain, from large infrastructure projects to small, innovative start-ups.”

Steinberg commented: “IFB 2016 will be a unique opportunity for thousands of businesses to open a new frontier: forging global connections, sharing ideas and exploring the potential of deals with new international partners.

“The first International Festival for Business was successful in stimulating over £200m of investment deals by 2017 and we aim to exceed this next year. IFB 2016 will bring together the world’s business community to deliver a first class showcase that represents the global marketplace and reinforces Britain’s international reputation as a destination for trade and investment.”
